2008 Survivor Doubles Tournament Rules

1)      This is a baker format doubles tournament that is run in conjunction with the Junior World Team Challenge on the Friday night before the team event.  One member of each doubles team must be a current year participant in the Junior World Team Challenge.  All participants must be current season USBC members in good standing.  Doubles teams are mix or match.  This tournament will be USBC Youth certified.

2)      Entries are limited to the first 96 teams submitting completed and paid entries.  Entries may be submitted by mail  (postmark by June 2, 2008 or electronically until June 10, 2008.  After June 10, 2008, entries will only be accepted on-site on the day of the event.  On-site entries open Friday, June 27  at 2 pm.  Entries will be accepted until 2:30 pm, or until the tournament fills.  Entries received without payment will be rejected. Onsite entries must be paid in cash.

3)      Lane assignments will be distributed at check-in, with practice to begin at 3 PM.  Participants will receive 10 minutes of practice after which tournament play will begin.

4)      Teams will compete in one open division.  All competition will be scratch.  Average verification is not required.

5)      Cost:  Entry fee is $50.00 per doubles team ($18.00 lineage & expenses, $32.00 prize fund). Add $1.50 for electronic payment service fee if paid online.

6)      Awards:  All awards will be in the form of scholarships.  The awards ratio is a minimum of 1:4.  Based on 96 entries, the following scholarship places will be awarded:  1st, 2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-8th, and 9th-16th, ,17th – 32nd. Awards money will be returned 100%.  Scholarships will be deposited with USBC’s SMART program.  

7)      Format:  This tournament is baker doubles format, and all competition is scratch.  In baker format, bowler 1 rolls frames 1,3,5,7,9, and bowler 2 rolls frames 2,4,6,8,10 of each game.  All teams will bowl six (6) qualifying games, moving after each game.  Upon completion of the qualifying round, scores will be totaled and the top 32 teams, according to total pins, will be placed on a bracket according to their place (i.e. 1st vs 64th, 2nd vs. 63rd, etc.)  The bracket round will be single elimination matchplay.  Each match will consist of two (2) games, with the total pins for both games determining winners.  Winners will advance on the bracket, while losers are eliminated from competition.  Opponents are determined by initial placement on, and advancement on the bracket.  Bracket competition will continue until first place is determined.

8)      In the event of a tie, teams will have a 9th & 10th frame roll-off.  If there is a tie in the championship match, a full game roll-off will determine the winner.  The format for all tiebreakers will be baker.

9)      Dress Code:  Collared shirts will not be required for this tournament.  However, clothing will alcohol or tobacco advertising, or with offensive material printed on them, will not be allowed.  Shirts must come down to the waist (abdomen covered when extended at the foul line).  Pants or jeans may be worn, but may not have holes or rips in them.  Shorts must be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee measured when standing straight.  All pants, shorts, skirts, etc. shall be worn at waist level (no sagging is permitted). Undergarments may not be visible.  If a competitor is caught not adhering to the dress code, he/she will not be allowed to continue bowling.  Any bowler who is not in compliance with dress code at start of competition may be disqualified without refund.  At tournament manager's discretion, bowler may change clothes and continue bowling once appropriately dressed, but will receive zero for each frame missed.  Hats are not allowed. No sweat pants or sweat shirts are allowed.  Electronic devices such as Ipods, MP3 players, etc. may not be worn or used on the approach - they may be used in the setee area so long as they are not audible to any other bowler.  Cellular phones and pagers shall be put on silent mode or turned off and not used during competition.Tournament management reserves right to determine if dress is appropriate.

10)   Conduct:  Good sportsmanship is expected.  Poor sportsmanship, including foul language, gestures, and abuse of equipment, will not be tolerated.  One warning will be given, with repeat offenses dealt with by disqualification, with no refund of entry fee.  Bowlers who intentionally foul will receive zero for the frame.

If a rule is not covered in the tournament rules, USBC rules will apply.  The tournament director(s) have full authority in decision-making, and their decision is final unless an appeal is made in accordance with USBC Rule 329..

11) LOCATION & TIME:  The 2008 event will be held at the Suncoast Bowling Center, 9090 Alta Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday, June 27, 2008.
